Head Start Substitute Classroom Aide

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or enrolled in a GED program.
  • Must be currently working toward obtaining a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), have obtained a CDA, Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree. Those that are working on their Child Development Associate Credential must obtain it within 2 years of being hired.
  • Experience or ability to work with pre-school children.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to relate to and work with staff and parents.
  • Must meet State Licensing requirements for First Aid training, CPR training, Child Passenger Safety training, physical examination and Applicant Background Studies.
  • Experience/ability to work with Spanish speaking parents and children.
  • Physically able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to utilize and operate computers in child activities.
  • Must be able to act as bus monitor.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the center site is maintained in accordance with local, state and national program standards and licensing requirements
  • Follow all sanitation guidelines by washing, cleaning and sanitizing all food related surfaces, utensils and flooring
  • Empty all trash receptacles
  • Set up/tear down center equipment
  • Purchase all required groceries
  • Maintain proper storage of food and utensils
  • Serve breakfast/lunch/snack family-style to children
  • Complete all CACFP food paperwork in a timely manner
  • Maintain staff ratio at all times when children are present.
  • Interact with children in a positive proactive manner.
  • Conduct/assist with tooth brushing, use of restroom, and hand washing activities.
  • Assist Center Teacher with implementation and monitoring of center activities.
  • Assist with health, nutritional, and developmental observation/assessment and attendance documentation.
  • Act as a bus monitor on assigned routes.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Attend and participate in assigned job related meeting and functions including center, program and agency staff meeting and training assist in maintaining student files and computerized and manual documentation necessary to program operations
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $19.13 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 20 per week
Benefits: Flexible schedule
Schedule: Monday to Friday

Head Start Family Advocate

Wright County Community Action (WCCA) is seeking a Family Advocate to support our Head Start program locations. You will create coordination between Head Start services and community resources in order to foster strength and healthy living in our client’s lives. This role provides support in a case management style and acts as a liaison between families, staff, the community, and other family-related resources.

Positions available at 30 hours or 40 hours per week during the school year with benefits available year round.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have either a Bachelor’s (BA) or Associate (AA) degree in Early Childhood Education, Family Development, Social Work, or other similar human services related fields.
  • Must meet State Licensing requirements for First Aid and CPR certification, physical examination, and pass a Background Study.
  • Experience and ability to work with non-English speaking parents and children.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with inter-agency preschool education, human services, and related providers.
  • Knowledge and experience in Head Start or Early Childhood programs.

Pay: $25,770 to $39,000 per year depending education and experience.

Head Start Teacher

The Head Start Teacher plans and implements daily center-based activities to foster social, emotional and cognitive development for enrolled Head Start preschool children. The Teacher oversees daily operations, manages a safe classroom environment, and supervises the assistant teacher and aide at the assigned location.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, or coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education.
  • Experience teaching preschool children.
  • Must meet State Licensing requirements for First Aid training, CPR training, Child Passenger Safety training, physical examination and applicant background study.
  • Experience and ability to work with Spanish speaking parents and children preferred.
  • Experience within a Head Start classroom is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to relate to and work cooperatively with children, staff and parents.
  • Ability to relate to and work comfortably with parents and children of low-income families, children with special needs and parents and children of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to attend occasional evening activities, as required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with inter-agency preschool education, human services, and related providers.
  • Must have access to transportation for regular, local business and travel.
  • Must be able to utilize and operate computers in daily operations.
  • Must be able to act as bus monitor.
  • Abilities in Spanish desired.
